Rain Eases Drought in Many Parts of the Midwest
USAgNet - 09/21/2020

A multi-day rain event Sept. 6-12 brought dramatic relief from dry conditions in many areas in the Midwest and erased the extreme drought from all of Iowa, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Sept. 10 Drought Monitor report.

Rainfall totals amounted to 7.76 inches in Davenport, 7.46 inches in Dubuque, and 5.97 inches in Moline for the week ending Sept. 15.

On the heels of the Midwest showers, slow-moving Hurricane Sally, a Category 2 hurricane, inundated Florida's peninsula the weekend of Sept. 12-13 then after landfall in Gulf Shores, AL, Sept. 16, dumped catastrophic amounts of rain on southern Alabama and western Florida.

Meanwhile, dozens of dangerous and sometimes deadly wildfires continued to scorch the drought-stricken Pacific Coast States, lowering air quality across the country.
