Free Grants Advising Service for Farmers and Groups
USAgNet - 11/14/2018

Michael Fields Agricultural Institute (MFAI) offers a free grants advising service to farmers and farmer groups in the Midwest.

Its services include one-on-one help with specific federal, state and private grant proposals, periodic grant writing workshops for larger groups, and grants advising "pop-ups" at conferences. The service can help applicants clarify and articulate ideas, assess which grant program might fit their needs and craft a high-quality proposal. Advisors do not submit applications or take the lead on writing proposals but provide guidance on how to do so -- an approach that empowers farmers to pursue funding opportunities with knowledge and confidence.

This service is provided for individuals and organizations in the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Our work is made possible through funding from Farm Aid, USDA's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program, and the Wisconsin Farmers Union (for advisees in Wisconsin).

The Grants Advising Team includes Martin Bailkey and Kitt Healy, who can be contacted at grants@michaelfields.org. Interested individuals and organizations can also be added to an e-mail list announcing new grant opportunities by making a request to grants@michaelfields.org.

In addition, MFAI has a website with valuable links to a number of grant writing resources: michaelfields.org/grant-advising-resources/.
