Snow Arrives in Michigan as Harvest Winds Down
Michigan Ag Connection - 11/30/2021

Northern areas of the state began to experience snow cover as fields in the south remained fairly wet, according to Marlo D. Johnson, director of the Great Lakes Regional Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. There were 3.8 days suitable for fieldwork in Michigan during the week ending Sunday.

Corn harvest was slowed due to wet conditions although progress remained ahead of the five-year average. Reported grain moisture was 18 percent, unchanged from the previous week. Soybean harvest continued behind the five-year average. Reported soybean moisture was 16 percent, unchanged from the previous week. Winter wheat planting made very little progress due to the unfavorable weather.

Other activities included paperwork, tending to livestock, and hauling grain.

This issue concludes the weekly Michigan reports for the 2021 season. Special thanks to the dedicated farmers, ranchers, Extension Educators, FSA County Directors, NRCS Conservation Specialists, and others who supplied the necessary information. Their time and effort made this publication possible and ensured an up-to-date and accurate representation of Michigan agriculture.

Weekly reports will resume in April.
