Historical Barry Co. Farm to be Honored for Milestone Donation
Michigan Ag Connection - 07/20/2018

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will honor George Cullers of Barry County for donating his 137-acre farm to the State of Michigan's permanent agricultural conservation easement program. Rep. Julie Calley (R-87) will also be on-hand to recognize Cullers. This will make the 50th donation to the program since it started in 1974. Through this program, landowners donate their development rights through a conservation easement to preserve agricultural and open space land in the state.

Donated easements make up 40% of permanently protected farmland and open space in Michigan. To date, the State's Development Rights Program holds a total of 136 easements, preserving 25,000 acres; of that total, 50 agricultural easements were donated, totaling 8,000 acres.

The Agricultural Conservation Easement Celebration will take place July 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Tobias Farm - Hastings.
