Grants Available for Dairy Innovation and Exports


Grants are available for small- to medium-sized dairy farmers, entrepreneurs, and processors in the Midwest who are interested in advancing their dairy-related projects. Two grant programs are being offered by the Dairy Business Innovation Alliance (DBIA): the Dairy Business Builder Grant and the Dairy Industry Impact Grant.

Dairy Business Builder Grant

The Dairy Business Builder Grant is designed to assist new or existing dairy farms, as well as dairy manufacturing or processing facilities, in realizing their projects. These grants can provide up to $100,000 in funding for projects that fall under the following categories:

• Dairy farm diversification

• On-farm processing

• Value-added product creation

• Marketing dairy products for export

To be eligible for this grant, applicants must meet specific criteria:

• Represent a new or existing dairy farm or dairy manufacturing or processing facility within the state.

• Utilize milk that meets Grade A requirements.

• Comply with all relevant state and federal requirements.

Dairy Industry Impact Grant

The Dairy Industry Impact Grant is intended for targeted projects that have the potential to positively influence the dairy industry as a whole. These grants also offer up to $100,000 in funding for projects in the following areas:

• Expansion of dairy product exports

• Development of new dairy products or technologies

• Research on dairy production or marketing

To qualify for this grant, applicants must meet certain requirements:

• Have a project that aligns with the goals of the DBIA.

• Demonstrate the potential for their project to have a positive impact on the dairy industry.

Both grant programs are open to applicants in the following states: Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The application deadline for both grants is October 18, 2023.
