Southeast Michigan Crop and Pest Management Update Meeting Set



The Crop and Pest Management Update in southeast Michigan will help growers and agribusiness professionals prepare for the 2023 growing season.

Field crop producers, consultants and agribusiness professionals are invited to attend the 2023 Southeast Michigan Crop and Pest Management Update on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at the Old Mill Museum (242 Toledo Street, Dundee) hosted by Michigan State University Extension. This location is conveniently located just 5 minutes from Cabella’s. Participants will hear MSU Extension specialists and educators present the latest recommendations for managing weeds, diseases and insects and learn about current research in soil fertility and water management topics.

The meeting will begin with check in and a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 3 p.m. Educational sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and include the following:

Marty Chilvers – Opportunities and Challenges of Disease Management

Kurt Steinke – Crop Fertility Considerations When Margins are Tight

Chris DiFonzo – Update on Current Insect Pests

Ehsan Ghane – How to get the best out of your drainage system

Younsuk Dong and Lyndon Kelley – Benefits of Improving Irrigation Efficiency

Sarah Fronczak – Western Lake Erie Basin Update

Cost is $40 per person and includes a light breakfast and lunch. Attendees will receive a copy of MSU Extension bulletin E-434, “2023 Weed Control Guide for Field Crops,” due to generous support from Michigan Soybean Committee, Michigan Wheat Program and Corn Marketing Program of Michigan.

Attendees can earn five Michigan pesticide recertification (RUP) credits and 5.5 Certified Crop Advisor credits (1NM, 1.5SW, 2.5IPM, 0.5PD).

Pre-registration is required to ensure an accurate count for meals and materials. Registration will close Jan. 31, so please plan accordingly.
