The USDA has extended the application deadline for the Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program, designed to support organic dairy producers facing unique hardships in the industry. The program offers financial assistance to mitigate challenges by covering projected marketing costs in 2023 based on the producer's 2022 marketing expenses.
Acting Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs at the Farm Service Agency, John Berge, urged interested and eligible producers to contact their local USDA Service Center to apply. The program aims to sustain organic dairy operations during 2023 until the markets stabilize.
Producers must certify their 2022 milk production, provide documentation of organic certification, and submit a completed application form to be considered.
The Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program complements other available assistance for dairy producers, such as Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) and Supplemental DMC, with over $300 million in benefits paid for the 2023 program year to date.
