Blueberry Season Update

Blueberry Season Update

The month of July is National Blueberry Month, and blueberries hold a significant role in Fourth of July festivities. Let's delve into the current state of the U.S. blueberry season:

Michigan: Michigan anticipates peak volumes from late July to mid-August. The region boasts exceptional varieties, benefiting from the moderating effect of Lake Michigan's temperature and sandy loam soils. Retailers can capitalize on increased consumer demand by scheduling promotions and showcasing the new, improved blueberry varieties available this season.

New Jersey: New Jersey experienced peak volume in mid-June and crops will soon transition to Michigan and the Pacific Northwest. Favorable weather conditions have mitigated the risk of diseases, resulting in a promising harvest. Projections estimate that more than 42 million pounds of blueberries will be picked this season in New Jersey.

Pacific Northwest: The Pacific Northwest is preparing for peak volumes from mid-July to early August. The region is set to deliver strong crops with ample volumes and enhanced quality. Favorable market conditions and demand for blueberries provide an opportunity for retailers to increase promotional activities and achieve remarkable sales records.

California and Oregon: California Giant Berry Farms foresees a fruitful summer with abundant blueberry yields. Conventional blueberries from Oregon and British Columbia, as well as organic harvest from Oregon and Washington, will be available from July to August. California Giant's affiliated growers are preparing for a wide supply window, allowing for substantial promotional opportunities.

The U.S. blueberry season showcases promising prospects, with different regions contributing to a robust supply of high-quality blueberries. Retailers are encouraged to take advantage of the strong consumer demand and explore various promotional strategies to maximize sales.
