The Michigan 4‑H Foundation has announced the creation of the Michigan Pork Producers Association 4‑H Endowment, made possible through a five‑year pledge from the Michigan Pork Producers Association (MPPA).
This newly established endowed fund strengthens the long‑standing partnership between MPPA, Michigan State University Extension’s 4‑H Youth Development program, and the Michigan 4‑H Foundation. Together, these groups share a mission of preparing young agricultural leaders who will contribute to the future of Michigan’s livestock industry.
The endowment represents a long‑term investment in high‑quality 4‑H educational programs. Interest earnings from the fund will support Michigan 4‑H livestock and animal science activities such as the Michigan 4‑H Livestock Workshop, livestock and meats judging camps, contests, and the 4‑H Animal and Veterinary Science Camp.
The fund will also provide sustained support for the Michigan 4‑H State Swine Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the swine project area. These programs help youth build skills in animal care, biosecurity, evaluation, nutrition, and responsible livestock management.
MPPA CEO Mary Kelpinski expressed the association’s commitment, stating, “MPPA is proud to support the development of the next generation of livestock leaders through this new 4-H endowment. The young people who participate in Michigan 4-H are the future of our farms, our rural communities, and our industry. By investing in their education, we’re investing in a stronger agricultural future for Michigan.”
MPPA, located in East Lansing, represents Michigan’s pork farmers while promoting a safe, sustainable, and thriving pork industry. The organization has a long history of supporting youth programs, producer education, and community partnerships that help cultivate leadership and agricultural career interests among young people.
Michigan 4‑H Foundation director Abbey Miller expressed gratitude for the endowment, saying, “We are deeply grateful to MPPA for its vision and generosity. The Michigan Pork Producers Association 4-H Endowment will ensure that livestock and animal science education remains strong, accessible and impactful for generations of 4-H youth across the state.”
This new endowment will ensure continued opportunities for Michigan’s youth to grow as skilled livestock leaders, strengthening the future of agriculture across the state.
