Michigan Wheat Program Elects New Board and Officers

The Michigan Wheat Program (MWP) is undergoing important changes in its leadership. Governor Whitmer recently announced key appointments that will shape the future of wheat farming in the state.

• Dwight Bartle: A skilled wheat grower from Sanilac County, Dwight is the newest addition to the MWP board. Dwight, along with his wife, Nancy, has a history of excelling in wheat yield contests and is actively involved in the Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network. His primary focus is on achieving consistent high yields and promoting soil health. Dwight's vision for Michigan wheat includes continued research efforts to ensure its sustainability.

• Jeff Krohn: Jeff, the current board chairman, has been re-appointed for a second term. He is the owner of Northern Thumb Crop Consulting and manages Krohn Acres, a family farm producing various crops, including wheat.

• Carl Wagner III: Carl, also re-appointed, is a retail agronomist and owner of C3 Seeds of Niles. He holds a degree in Crop and Soil Agronomic Sciences from Michigan State University.

Additionally, the MWP board elected officers for the 2023-2024 term:

• Jeff Krohn: Chairman

• Brent Wagner: Vice Chairman

• Lyn Uphaus: Secretary

• Tony Bohac: Treasurer

The MWP operates as a check-off organization funded by Michigan's wheat farmers. Established in 2011, it aims to advance wheat farming interests in the state through research, grower education, and collaboration with industry stakeholders. These appointments bring fresh perspectives and diversity to the board, benefiting Michigan's 8,000 wheat farmers and ensuring a prosperous future for the industry.
