New Legislative Liaison Appointed at Michigan Department of Agriculture

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) welcomes Mikaylah Heffernan as their newly appointed legislative liaison. Heffernan steps into this role after Ashley Steffen's transition to a new position within the Michigan Attorney General's office.

Heffernan's appointment brings a wealth of experience, combining legislative expertise and a strong dedication to agricultural development. Her focus spans pivotal areas such as animal health protection, climate resilience, and the enhancement of Michigan's agricultural economy.

Her prior role as a House Democratic Policy Advisor in the Michigan House of Representatives specialized in crafting policies concerning agriculture and natural resources.

With academic credentials including a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public policy from Michigan State University, Heffernan exemplifies a commitment to merging academic knowledge with real-world application in the agricultural and governmental spheres.

Heffernan's appointment at MDARD signifies an important move towards driving impactful policies and initiatives. Her contributions are anticipated to play a key role in advancing Michigan's agricultural landscape, fostering growth, and sustainability across the state's agricultural sector.
