Aspiring and experienced small farm owners are invited to the 'Sheep and Goats for Small Farms 2024' virtual workshop hosted by Michigan State University (MSU). Scheduled for March 2, 2024, from noon to 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) via Zoom, this annual event promises valuable insights for small to intermediate-sized sheep and goat farms.

Program Agenda:

  • Noon-12:10pm: Introductions and Overview
  • 12:10-1:00 pm: Fencing - Learn about effective fencing solutions for sheep and goats from Mike Metzger, MSU Extension Educator.
  • 1:00-1:50 pm: USDA Programs for Small Ruminant Producers - Explore USDA programs for sheep and goat producers with Aimee Swenson, USDA State Outreach and Communications Director.
  • 1:50-2:00 pm: Break
  • 2:00-2:50 pm: A Basic Biosecurity Program for Your Farm - Understand the basics of preventing diseases on your farm with Richard Ehrhardt, MSU Small Ruminant Specialist.
  • 2:50-3:40 pm: Trace Mineral Supplementation in Small Ruminants - Delve into necessary trace mineral supplementation for sheep and goats with Mike Metzger, MSU Extension Educator.
  • 3:40-4:00 pm: Panel Discussion - All presenters will be available to answer questions.
