Michigan's youth have a golden opportunity to shape their educational journey with the $5,000 Lifetime MYLSF Scholarship. Since its inception in 2000, the Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarship Fund (MYLSF) has granted a remarkable $776,055 to outstanding youth engaged in premier livestock events across the state.
For the 2024 scholarship, applicants may be chosen for interviews, opening doors to larger awards at the Sale-Abration event. To be eligible, candidates must be Michigan residents, graduating high school seniors, or graduates continuing their education at accredited institutions.
Applications for both the general MYLSF scholarship and the statewide scholarship are available here. The deadline for submission is 11:59 pm on May 15, 2024.
For the MYLSF general scholarship, applicants must have three years of youth exhibition at the Michigan Livestock Expo or the Michigan Dairy Expo. Statewide scholarship applicants need three years of youth exhibition at local, county, or statewide events.
Funding for these scholarships is sourced from the Michigan Livestock Expo Sale-Abration auction and generous donations. The MYLSF, governed by an 11-member board of agricultural community volunteers, ensures that Michigan's youth in agriculture receive the support they need.
In 2023, $41,000 in scholarships was awarded, with an additional $15,000 deposited into Michigan Education Saving Plans for youth exhibitors participating in judging and showmanship events at the Michigan Livestock Expo.
Notable recipients from the 2023 MYLSF scholarship include Emma Challender, Jordyn Chant, Natasha Bickel, and others, receiving amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000.
