Michigan Craft Beverage Council Accepting Research Grant Proposals

The Michigan Craft Beverage Council (MCBC) is extending an invitation to researchers and innovators to submit their proposals for the 2024 research program. With a maximum grant award of $40,000, this opportunity holds the promise of advancing critical research in the craft beverage industry.

Proposals are welcomed until 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on Friday, October 13, 2023. While the MCBC is open to a wide array of research topics, they have identified several funding priorities:

• Climate Change Impact: Exploring how climate change affects Michigan's craft beverage agricultural supply chain.

• Crop Quality Analysis: Evaluating and developing new varieties for hops, fruit, barley, grain, or other agricultural inputs crucial to craft beverage production.

• Sustainable Water Use: Investigating best practices for sustainable water usage in craft beverage production processes.

• Market Research: Studying market trends and dynamics within the craft beverage industry.

• Comparative Analysis: Conducting in-depth comparative studies to enhance craft beverage knowledge and practices.

For a comprehensive list of MCBC's research priorities and evaluation criteria, visit the MDARD grants page.

A Joint Evaluation Committee will diligently review all proposals in December 2023, with funding decisions anticipated in January 2024. Once approved, projects will kick off following grantee notification.

To submit your proposal, send it via email to MDARD-CraftBev@Michigan.gov no later than 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on October 13, 2023. Kindly note that proposals received after the 3:00 p.m. deadline will not be considered. If you're interested in applying, please refer to the application and grant guidelines, as well as peruse past projects funded by the Council for insights.
