Michigan State University Extension Presents 2023 Fumigation Training

Michigan State University Extension is pleased to present the 2023 Fumigation Training, offering invaluable insights into stored grain and soil fumigation. This comprehensive program, hosted by Michigan State University Extension Field Crops Educators, will equip you with the knowledge and expertise needed for successful fumigation practices.

Date: Monday, December 11, 2023

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Location: MSU Livestock Pavilion, East Lansing, Michigan

The training agenda is divided into two sessions:

Morning Session - Stored Grain Fumigation:

  • Delve into the fundamentals of stored grain fumigation.
  • Learn to identify stored grain bugs.
  • Stay updated on the latest fumigation regulations.
  • Explore commodity fumigation basics, fumigation products, procedures, calculations, and safety measures.

Afternoon Session - Soil Fumigation:

  • Gain insights into the significance of soil fumigation in agriculture.
  • Understand how to manage problematic nematodes in potato production.
  • Learn about soil fumigation chemicals and the proper techniques for their use. This training is a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in improving their understanding of stored grain and soil fumigation. By participating, you can earn 4 fumigation Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) credits. Completing this training will provide you with the necessary recertification credits to renew your private or commercial applicator fumigation standard, allowing you to purchase and apply fumigants in Michigan.

During the morning session, Jeff Fusee from the MSU Department of Medicine will provide respirator fit tests. To participate in this session, you should have proof of completing a respiratory medical evaluation and bring your respiratory protection equipment.

The registration fee for this training is $60, which covers lunch and materials. It is advisable to pre-register to ensure adequate food and materials for all participants.
