Old City Acres Farm Tour Highlights Local Food Connections

Old City Acres Farm Tour Highlights Local Food Connections

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Food and Farming Alliance (MOFFA) and Keep Growing Detroit (KGD) are teaming up with the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) to host a special farm tour at Old City Acres in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The event will be led by Alex Ball, farmer and founder of Old City Acres, who operates his year-round farm and food hub with the mission of “increasing access to fresh local foods for folks in Southeast Michigan.” During the tour, participants will see how the farm manages production, community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, and partnerships with nearby producers to strengthen local food systems.

Old City Acres offers a flexible CSA program featuring locally grown produce, eggs, honey, and products from other area farms. Visitors will learn how Ball’s innovative model connects communities directly with fresh, sustainable food sources while supporting regional growers.

The event welcomes farmers, food professionals, educators, and community members interested in sustainable agriculture and local food networks. It’s a valuable opportunity to experience firsthand how small farms like Old City Acres play a major role in building resilient food systems.

Free bus transportation from Detroit is available for participants, departing at 12:00 p.m. from 1445 Adelaide Street and returning at 4:00 p.m. Those wishing to use the bus service should indicate this on the registration form.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required. To register, visit moffa.net/farm-tour-registration.

For questions, contact Katie Brandt at brandtk7@msu.edu or 616-885-7776.

This farm tour offers a closer look at how local food production can inspire community connection and promote sustainable, healthy living across Michigan.
