Webinar Series Empowers Youth in Livestock Market Projects

By Andi Anderson

Young livestock enthusiasts can now sharpen their skills through a free webinar series titled “Make the Most of Your Market Animal Project,” hosted by Michigan State University Extension.

This interactive, five-week series is open to all and will take place every Wednesday from April 30 to May 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET.

Using lessons from the 4-H Business Guide to Success, the sessions aim to help participants succeed at livestock auctions by learning key business and communication skills. Registration is required, and attendees can join one or all sessions.

Here’s the webinar schedule:

  • April 30 – Goal-Getters: Learn how to set SMART goals to track progress and prepare animals for fair and auction success.
  • May 7 – Talk the Talk: Gain tips on strong communication, connecting with buyers, and confidently presenting your livestock project.
  • May 14 – Records to Riches: Understand the importance of record-keeping, tracking expenses, and calculating break-even points for profitable livestock sales.
  • May 21 – Marketing Mastery: Discover the 5 Ps of marketing—product, price, place, promotion, and people—and learn to build a marketing plan and boost your livestock project sales.
  • May 28 – From the Pitch to the Payment: Explore buyer recruitment techniques, learn the value of strong pitches, and see how social media can expand your outreach.

Participants will build confidence, improve financial decision-making, and master practical business skills to prepare for livestock auctions. They’ll also learn to engage with local buyers and promote their projects effectively.

Whether you’re new to livestock projects or looking to improve your auction results, this free webinar series is a great step toward success in 2025.
