U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman Pat Roberts and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow Thursday observed the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).

The Senate Agriculture Committee leaders introduced a resolution to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of FNS, which works "in a public-private partnership to reduce food insecurity and promote nutritious diets among the people of the United States."

"I applaud the good work done by the folks at the Food and Nutrition Service," said Roberts. "FNS uses the bounty of American farmers and ranchers to reduce food insecurity, and their work to assist hungry Americans does not go unnoticed."

"For 50 years, the Food and Nutrition Service has fought hunger and helped millions of families put food on the table," said Stabenow. "We appreciate the important work they do and support their mission to ensure no American goes hungry."

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the resolution on July 31.
