Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell announced Kathy Angerer will be joining the team as the department's new deputy director effective Monday. As Deputy Director, she will support McDowell's continued commitment in investing in the state's rural communities, expanding food and agriculture businesses, protecting consumers from the pump to the plate, and preserving Michigan's environmental resources.
"Kathy has a long history of public service with a passion for the key issues impacting food and agriculture like increasing high-speed internet access and growing our small businesses, while ensuring we're building bridges within those communities," said McDowell. "I am confident Kathy will bring that same commitment and support for MDARD's programs, our stakeholders and staff."
Angerer has served the people of the state of Michigan and southeast Michigan in several roles throughout her career. She was a State Representative from 2005-2010; Executive Director of Government Affairs at AT&T Michigan from 2011-2012; and most recently, served as the City Manager for Hamtramck. Additionally, she has served as Hamtramck's Director of Community & Economic Development as well as their Community and Governmental Affairs Director.
She grew up in Carleton, attended Monroe County Community College, and is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University.
