August is a key month for learning about seed treatment, and Michigan State University Extension is leading the charge. Farmers and agricultural professionals across the Midwest can join a series of educational events focused on improving the safety and effectiveness of seed treatments.
Beginning Tuesday, August 5, MSU Extension will host a weekly Seed Treatment Webinar Series every Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m. throughout August. These webinars will cover important topics including nematode management, insect and disease control, soybean biological treatments, and how to calculate use rates for pesticides.
Each webinar is approved for one restricted use pesticide (RUP) credit (1A, 4, and Private) and one Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) credit. These sessions are ideal for those looking to stay up to date on treatment best practices while maintaining certification. Registration information is available under the 2025 Seed Treatment Webinars program.
For those who prefer hands-on learning, MSU Extension is also hosting an in-person workshop on Monday, August 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Van Buren County Extension Office in Hartford, Michigan.
This session will include presentations on equipment calibration, personal protective equipment, pesticide storage and disposal, and more.
Participants in the in-person workshop will receive four RUP credits (Private and Commercial Core, 1A, and 4) and 3.5 CCA credits (3 PM, 0.5 CM).
Those interested in attending can contact the MSU Extension Van Buren County Office at 269-657-8213 or email msue.vanburen@county.msu.edu. For program-specific questions, reach out to field crops educators Nicolle Ritchie or Jenna Falor.
These educational opportunities aim to enhance plant health, reduce environmental impact, and support ongoing learning in Michigan’s farming communities.
