The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a significant investment to support community development and educational services in Rockford. Through its Rural Development program, the agency has awarded a $1 million grant to assist with the expansion of the Krause Memorial Library.
The funding will be used to purchase furniture for the library’s expansion project, which is expected to double the size of the existing facility. The improvement will provide residents with enhanced learning spaces, better access to resources, and increased opportunities for community engagement.
Libraries play an important role in supporting education, literacy, and lifelong learning. The expansion of Krause Memorial Library is expected to benefit people of all ages by creating a more modern and welcoming environment for reading, studying, research, and community activities.
Dom Restuccia, USDA Rural Development Michigan State Director, emphasized the importance of the project and its impact on local residents.
“Literacy is the cornerstone of education and the updates provided by this grant will help to ensure the Krause Memorial Library will continue as a resource for learners, both old and young, for generations to come,” said Restuccia. “From public safety to public libraries, the Trump-Vance Department of Agriculture is committed to restoring rural America and supporting towns like Rockford.”
The grant is being provided through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program. This program offers loans, loan guarantees, and grants to support public service facilities in rural communities. Its goal is to improve quality of life and strengthen essential services that contribute to community growth and development.
