MICHIGAN WEATHER

EGLE to Hold Safe Drinking Water Act Engagement Sessions

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will host a series of discussions on how to improve the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Public Health Code to strengthen protections of the public's health through the delivery of clean, safe water.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued Executive Directive 2021-09, in November 2021, which directed all state agencies "to undertake a comprehensive review of the state's role in our drinking water systems. This review [focuses] on both prevention and response when water quality issues arise . . . [and] will result in action by providing recommendations [from state agencies] on what needs to be done to ensure every parent can hand their child a glass of water with confidence."

The agencies are hosting two public engagement sessions for any interested persons to provide input on recommended changes. To maximize public participation and to create space for authentic conversations, Public Sector Consultants will be facilitating the sessions, which will provide an opportunity to shape the recommendations back to the governor. Both meetings will cover the same content.

The sessions will be virtual to accommodate as many individuals as possible, but participants are required to register for their preferred meeting.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Session One -- Sept. 7, 6--8 p.m.

Session Two -- Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to noon

If you cannot make the sessions, or would prefer to provide comments in writing, you may submit comments through the following public comment link. Alternatively, you can submit written comments by US Mail to Public Sector Consultants, c/o SDWA Project Team, 230 N Washington Square, Suite 300, Lansing, MI 48933. Please submit comments by Sept. 23
