Essentials of Wheat Production Webinar Feb. 15

The Michigan Wheat Program's Wheat-tastic Wheat Wisdom Webinar series was so successful last winter, it is being brought back for one special presentation. Dennis Pennington, MSU Wheat Specialist, will present the Essentials of Wheat Production on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

Pennington will focus on essentials for the establishment of wheat topics including: planting, spring growth, stand assessment and key growth stages for wheat growth and development. The program is building on his work to help growers improve their wheat crop and include information learned from 10 years of Michigan Wheat Program funded research. The program runs 60 minutes and will include ample time for questions.

Pennington has worked on many research projects for the Michigan Wheat Program since 2016 and coordinates all on-farm wheat research on- and off-campus for the Michigan wheat check-off and MSU. He works in partnership with breeder Eric Olson on the variety trials, which continue to grow annually both in size and data available through the high management trials. He holds BS and MA degrees.

In addition to all of his research and production responsibilities, he has also authored or collaborated on several publications. Pennington provides monthly content for the Michigan Wheat Program's e-newsletter, Wheat Wisdom, and last year co-produced the Michigan Wheat 101 publication. This past year Pennington has been leading the way for the development of a Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network in cooperation with Canada.
