Maple Valley Schools in Barry County was recently awarded a Farm Bureau Triple-Up Snack Grant to fight food insecurity in the classroom.
Local Farm Bureau Insurance agent Lynn Denton and Barry County Farm Bureau each donated $300 to Maple Valley to help purchase snacks for students during the school day. The Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) will match an additional $300, and $900 total will be donated through the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies.
Denton and Barry County Farm Bureau are excited to partner with Maple Valley to address a growing need in their local school system.
“I have lived in the community for over 40 years,” said Denton, who had grandchildren attending Maple Valley Schools. “I know the needs of the students and I thought it would be a great way to help.”
Denton thanked the Barry County Farm Bureau, noting that they have “always supported” him in many projects to help others.
The ACF Triple-Up Snack Program is a collaborative effort between county Farm Bureaus and local insurance agents and is focused on providing healthy snack options for students during the school day.
ACF will match up to $300 for both county Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Insurance agent donations to purchase student snacks for qualifying school districts. Donation matches are approved by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the school, population being served and overall impact of the program.
