Gardeners Get 2026 Last Frost Forecast Map

Gardeners Get 2026 Last Frost Forecast Map

By Jamie Martin

Farmers preparing for the upcoming growing season often focus on one important milestone -the date of the final spring frost. To support that planning process, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has launched a new Last Frost Date Map for 2026.  The new online tool was developed for gardeners, but will be appreciated by farmers too.

For more than two centuries, the Almanac has been known for its long-range weather outlooks and gardening advice. The new map builds on that tradition by offering a clearer picture of frost timing for the coming season.

Rather than depending entirely on historical averages, the map combines long-range forecasts with past climate data to provide a more accurate seasonal estimate.

The result is a visual guide showing whether the last frost in 2026 may arrive earlier, later, or around the usual timeframe in different parts of the country. In many areas, the variation is expected to be about a week or two compared with typical frost dates.

“In spring, even small shifts in frost timing can have an outsized impact,” said Catherine Boeckmann, Master Gardener and Executive Digital Editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. “This map adds focused insight around one of the season’s most consequential thresholds.”

The map uses color-coded regions to help gardeners plan planting schedules, protect sensitive crops from late cold snaps, and better understand changing spring weather patterns.

Although created with backyard gardeners in mind, the tool is also valuable for farmers, as well as landscapers, nursery operators, and beekeepers who rely on accurate seasonal information for crop growth and bloom timing.
