Michigan Ag Commission Elects Officers, Welcomes New Members



During its regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday, the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development elected its new officers for 2023 and welcomed new Commissioners David Williams and Dr. Felicia Wu.

Andy Chae of Detroit was elected chair of the Commission. Chae was appointed to the Commission by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on July 7, 2021. He is the owner/operator of FishEye Farms in Detroit.

Monica Wyant of Grand Rapids was elected vice chair of the Commission. Wyant is the produce business manager for Meijer, Inc., where she is responsible for sourcing fresh fruits and vegetables for the grocery chain.

Juliette King-McAvoy of Central Lake was elected secretary of the Commission. King-McAvoy is the vice president of sales and marketing for King Orchards, a family-owned and operated orchard and food business.

Additionally, the Commission welcomed Williams and Wu to their first meeting. Williams and Wu were both appointed by the Governor Tuesday for terms ending on December 31, 2026. Williams succeeds Charlie Meintz whose term expired, and Dr. Wu succeeds Patricia Bergadhl whose term expired.

The Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development has the responsibility to recommend, and in some cases determine, policy on food, agricultural, and rural development issues. The Commission is a bipartisan body of five citizens appointed by the Governor.
