By Andi Anderson

The recent Michigan FFA State Convention unveiled the outstanding accomplishments of its members, with Drew George (Niles FFA), Alexis Ewing (Jonesville FFA), Blake Herremans (Montague FFA), and Josh Fruchey (Blissfield FFA) emerging as the proud recipients of the prestigious Star Awards.

In the production category, Drew George secured the Star Award, highlighting his dedication and hard work. Alexis Ewing claimed the Star in Agriscience, while Blake Herremans earned recognition in agricultural placement. Josh Fruchey stood out in agribusiness, showcasing his commitment to excellence.

Josh Fruchey shared his perspective on the achievement, stating, "It all starts with hard work and dedication to push yourself to the limits that you didn’t even think you could go." The sentiment was echoed by Alexis Ewing, who expressed, "Being with everybody — it feels great. This is my last state convention, so I have really been taking in everything, enjoying the moment."

The Star Awards, presented annually by Michigan FFA, commend members who excel in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). Recognizing achievements in production, management, research, finance, and record keeping, the awards signify the commitment of these individuals to personal and career-based growth.

The 96th Michigan FFA State Convention, held from Feb. 28 to March 1, brought together over 127 chapters and welcomed more than 2,500 members and guests. The convention served as a platform to honor exceptional FFA members, providing a glimpse into the future of agriculture through their remarkable contributions.
