Michigan Teachers Can Register for 'There's a Pig in My Classroom' Trip

The Michigan Soybean Committee and Michigan Pork Producers Association are pleased to sponsor a virtual field trip called There's a Pig in My Classroom for Michigan students in third through sixth grade on April 21. This field trip will allow students to learn how pork gets from the farm to the plate. Teachers can go online to register their classrooms for this event. Registration is on a first come first serve basis through the link below.

During the virtual field trip on April 21, students will have the opportunity to visit the Fair Oaks Pig Adventure farm and learn all aspects of the pork industry. Students will learn how pigs are raised on the farm, production terminology and information about purchasing pork in the grocery store. The field trip will be interactive and engaging for students as they learn about life on the farm.

In addition to the virtual field trip, teachers will also receive both an introductory and follow up lesson plan. In the introductory lesson plan, students will learn about terminology, breeds, nutrition and production stages. This allows students to be more engaged during the virtual field trip. The follow up lesson plan is a fun activity learning about pigs, careers and recipes. It even includes a grocery store scavenger hunt! This activity will help to reinforce concepts learned during the field trip. Students will benefit from this field trip by learning important information about the pork industry and how food travels from the farm to the table.

To participate in the field trip, teachers will need a tech device with camera, microphone and speaker capabilities and the ability to connect via Zoom.
