MSU Extension Opens Registration for 2026 Agritourism Summit

MSU Extension Opens Registration for 2026 Agritourism Summit

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University Extension has announced that registration is now open for the 2026 Agritourism Summit. This year’s theme, Cultivating Opportunities Through Collaboration, Innovation and Policy, highlights the importance of working together to support a strong and resilient agritourism industry across Michigan.

The event is designed for farmers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and rural advocates who want to explore new ideas, share experiences, and strengthen the state’s rural economy.

A major goal of the Summit is to build a connected community that values agriculture and encourages economic development through locally rooted opportunities.

The Agritourism Summit will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The day before the Summit, on Tuesday, May 13, MSU Extension will host a Pre‑Summit Farm Tour across Antrim and Grand Traverse Counties. This full‑day, curated experience includes guided stops at several agritourism locations, including orchards, breweries, organic farms, and a distillery.

Participants will enjoy tastings, behind‑the‑scenes tours, locally crafted foods, and transportation from the Grand Traverse Resort. The tour will conclude at Flintfields Horse Park, which will also host the evening Welcome Soirée.

The Soirée and Networking Event offers locally sourced food and beverages, two complimentary drink tickets, an equestrian jumper demonstration, and opportunities for meaningful industry networking.

The menu is developed by award‑winning chef Jimmy Schmidt, making the evening a special highlight for attendees.

On May 14, the Agritourism Summit will include a welcome address from Ben LaCross, President of the Michigan Farm Bureau, and a keynote presentation from Tim Boring, Ph.D., Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development.

The Summit will feature panel discussions with Michigan agritourism operators, as well as breakout sessions focused on marketing, finance, zoning strategies, the Michigan Right to Farm Act, farm stay planning, and realistic agritourism case studies. Attendees will also enjoy a locally sourced lunch, coffee, and refreshments.

Multiple registration options are available, including bundles for the full program, the Summit only, or the Pre‑Summit Tour and Soirée. Early‑bird pricing is offered until April 1.

The event is supported by a variety of partners and sponsors, including farms, tourism groups, food businesses, and agricultural organizations. Businesses interested in partnership or sponsorship opportunities may contact MSU Extension directly or visit the event’s sponsorship page.
