MSU Soybean Research, Crop Management Day Registration Extended

There is a lot of relevant soybean research being conducted at Michigan State University, and Michigan State University Extension specialists also have new crop and pest management recommendations to share. Because of this, MSU Extension and the Michigan Soybean Committee are co-sponsoring a Soybean Research and Crop Management Field Day on Aug. 26 at the MSU Plant Pathology farm, 3735 N. College Road, Lansing, MI 48910. The program begins with registration, coffee and donuts at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with lunch at 12:30 p.m. The registration deadline has been extended to Aug. 23.

MSU researchers and specialists Martin Chilvers, Christy Sprague, Kurt Steinke, Chris DiFonzo, Marisol Quintanilla, Dechun Wang, Feng Lin and Manni Singh will showcase their research, provide their latest pest and crop management recommendations and answer questions from participants. The specific topics covered at the field day are listed below:

  • Soybean diseases
  • Developing genetic disease resistance
  • Insect pests of soybeans
  • Understanding nutrient application impacts on soybean growth and yield
  • Soybean cyst nematode management
  • Marestail suppression with cover crops and row width
  • Profitable planting practices

Participants will earn two pesticide recertification and three certified crop advisor credits.

The Michigan Soybean Checkoff program is covering much of the cost of this program. However, there is a $10 per person registration fee and pre-registration is requested to ensure an accurate count for lunch and materials. Please register by Aug. 23, before noon.
