Michigan's farming community is gearing up for the 2024 Take Root Succession Planning Conference, an essential event for farmers focusing on the future of their agricultural legacy. Hosted by the Michigan Farm Bureau, this biennial conference will take place on February 27 at the MSU Henry Center, providing a vital platform for learning and networking.
The conference's agenda is packed with valuable sessions and keynote speakers, including Jolene Brown, a nationally recognized advisor in succession planning. Brown is known for her engaging approach and deep understanding of the farm community. Additionally, a group of six Michigan-based estate-planning lawyers, each with their expertise, will be available to address various legal aspects of farm succession.
Representatives from Greenstone Farm Credit Services and Farm Bureau Insurance will offer their insights, alongside experts from a farm-business accounting firm, a financial planning firm, and a Medicare specialist. These professionals will provide attendees with a comprehensive view of the financial and legal intricacies involved in farm succession.
One of the highlights of the conference is the range of breakout sessions. These sessions will cover critical topics like forming and operating an LLC and understanding the implications of the federal Corporate Transparency Act on farms. Attendees will have the opportunity to tailor their experience by choosing sessions that align with their specific needs and interests.
The registration fee of $100 includes a continental breakfast, lunch, beverages, snacks, presentation printouts, and a complimentary notebook, ensuring a well-rounded experience for all participants. The deadline for registration is February 9, and young farmers are encouraged to reach out to their county Farm Bureau for a 50% scholarship opportunity.
This conference is not just an educational event; it's a crucial meeting point for farmers who are serious about ensuring the longevity and prosperity of their agricultural endeavors. As the agricultural industry evolves, events like the Take Root Conference provide farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to adapt and thrive.
