MassTimber@MSU is excited to offer a one-year, full-time Outreach Specialist position as part of the Michigan Healthy Climate Corps (MHC). The MHC Corps plays a key role in supporting the state's MI Healthy Climate Plan, which was launched by Governor Whitmer in April 2022.
This plan aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, create jobs, and promote a healthier, more equitable Michigan.
The Outreach Specialist will develop and implement a comprehensive outreach and engagement plan targeting underserved and climate-affected communities.
This includes engaging tribal, BIPOC, and other under-invested groups, with a special focus on introducing mass timber as an opportunity for these communities. Building on the efforts of the 2024 MHC Corps member, the new member will continue to shape the outreach plan to align with community interests and needs.
Key responsibilities of the role include identifying organizations and individuals within the targeted communities, gauging interest in mass timber through surveys and discussions, and determining the most effective methods of engagement, such as online meetings or in-person events.
The Outreach Specialist will also draft a stakeholder engagement plan and facilitate initial outreach activities.
In addition to these tasks, the member will help communities access climate resources, participate in MHC Corps development programs, and host a community input session to support the overall goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
The deadline to apply for this exciting opportunity is Sunday, September 8, 2024. Candidates who are passionate about climate action and community engagement are encouraged to apply and contribute to the long-term sustainability and equity efforts in Michigan.
