Colorado Farm Soil Water Grants

By Jamie Martin

Colorado has launched a new grant program designed to help farms strengthen soil health and improve water resource management. The Soil Health and Optimizing Water grant offers funding to support projects that apply soil health principles and smarter water practices on working agricultural lands.

“This grant will help us understand how soil health can improve water use. It will also help Colorado’s producers make their operations more resilient by improving how water is managed on working lands,” said Toby McPartland, Soil Health Specialist with CDA. “We encourage anyone interested in applying to join our upcoming webinar so they can better understand the opportunities and prepare a strong application.”

The program provides up to fifty thousand dollars per project and is funded by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. Eligible applicants include farmers conservation districts nonprofit organizations local governments and research institutions. The goal is to encourage projects that protect natural resources and improve long term farm productivity.

Healthy soil plays an important role in farming success. It helps crops grow better reduces erosion and improves water storage. By improving water use practices farms can lower costs protect nearby water sources and reduce the impact of drought and climate stress.

An informational webinar will be held to explain the program in detail. The webinar will review eligible practices monitoring needs and funding guidelines. It will also allow participants to speak directly with program staff and receive guidance for preparing applications.

Grant applications opened on December eleven twenty twenty five and must be submitted by January twenty twenty six. The webinar will be held on December seventeen at ten in the morning Mountain Time.

The Colorado Soil Health Program was launched in twenty twenty one and has already supported more than four hundred producers. It offers technical assistance and promotes partnerships that help farmers adopt better land management practices.

This new funding opportunity supports Colorado’s long term goals for environmental care climate resilience and responsible water planning. It also encourages peer learning among producers and builds stronger agricultural communities across the state.
