Farmers face numerous challenges, from unpredictable weather and market volatility to rising input costs. To help manage these risks effectively, Michigan State University Extension is offering a free virtual session titled Managing Risk Through Diverse Specialty Crop Marketing Strategies. This program is part of the Farm Policy and Risk Management Series and will be held on Tuesday, January 28, at 1 p.m.

The session provides an overview of various direct and intermediated market channels for specialty crop producers. Attendees will learn about the benefits and risk management considerations of each option. Having multiple outlets for selling specialty crops can enhance resilience and provide farmers with more opportunities to meet their business goals.

The program emphasizes strategies tailored to farmers’ unique skillsets and objectives, making it a valuable resource for all Michigan farmers. As production risks from weather, price fluctuations, and input costs remain prevalent, finding the right marketing mix becomes crucial for long-term sustainability.
