Michigan State University Extension, in collaboration with Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s ValleyHUB, is hosting a two-day workshop titled "Planning for Profit." This free event, held on January 24 and 31, 2025, is designed for agricultural producers looking to enhance profitability and evaluate market opportunities.
Focus on Profitability and Marketing
The workshop will help farmers analyze their enterprise budgets to understand the costs and revenues associated with their products. Through hands-on sessions, participants will learn about budgeting, production costs, and economic principles to make informed decisions.
Marketing fundamentals will also be covered, including analyzing market opportunities, choosing between direct and wholesale channels, and implementing effective strategies. Farmers will gain practical insights into pricing and selecting the right market mix to maximize profits.
Workshop Highlights
Day 1: January 24
Topics include enterprise budgeting, local food marketing basics, and interactive discussions. Participants will learn practical tools to assess and improve farm profitability.
Day 2: January 31
Sessions include pricing strategies, market channel analysis, and a farmer marketing panel showcasing successful practices. The workshop ends with an optional tour of the Food Innovation Center.

A panel of Michigan farmers will share their experiences in producing and marketing farm products. This diverse approach will provide attendees with actionable ideas to improve their operations.
