MDARD Director Tim Boring catalyzed Michigan’s agricultural growth in a strategic roundtable at Eastern Market. Collaboration, innovation, and sustainability topped discussions among Michigan's diverse commodities.
Looking ahead, MDARD gears up for game-changing grants in 2024. $10 million, sourced from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service, fuels Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure. An additional $1.8 million state funding fortifies Michigan's food and agriculture supply chains. Notably, $2.9 million targets minority-owned ventures, enhancing Michigan’s food landscape.
These initiatives bolster the middle of Michigan's food supply chain, amplifying market access for small farms and food businesses. The focus is on value-added products, fair markets, and job creation. Funds will enhance capacity across various locally produced food items, excluding meat and poultry.
Director Boring's 2023 tour culminated with VernDale Products, renowned for premium chocolate ingredients. Reflecting on the extensive year-long discussions with agriculture stakeholders, Boring emphasized MDARD's commitment to empowering local businesses like VernDale.
The engagement aims to align MDARD’s strategies with the aspirations of Michigan's agriculture community. Boring’s efforts underscore MDARD's proactive role in enabling local agribusinesses’ growth.
