During its regularly scheduled meeting, the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development approved the proposed drafts of the 2023 Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices (GAAMPs). The GAAMPs are reviewed each year by committees comprised of various experts and revised or updated as necessary.
"I applaud the work advisory committee has done updating the 2023 GAAMPs to ensure Michigan's farmers can follow the best management practices available and thank them for their service and commitment," said MDARD Director Gary McDowell. "When Michigan farmers follow these Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices, they can be confident they will be able to use the tools under Michigan's Right to Farm Act as part of a proactive legal defense if necessary."
All proposed changes for the following GAAMPS were approved: Care of Farm Animals, and Manure Management and Utilization. The GAAMPs regarding Nutrient Utilization; Farm Markets; Irrigation Water Use; Pesticide Utilization and Pest Control; Cranberry Production; and Site Selection and Odor Control for New and Expanding Livestock Facilities had no proposed changes for 2023.
