Michigan Ground Beef Recall - Stay Vigilant for E. coli

Michigan Ground Beef Recall - Stay Vigilant for E. coli

By Andi Anderson

Michigan residents are urged to inspect their refrigerators and freezers following a USDA recall on 6,768 pounds of raw ground beef. The announcement on December 31 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture highlighted the recall of beef products processed by Valley Meats LLC on December 22. With expiration dates set for January 15, 2024, these items are suspected of carrying E. coli bacteria.

This affected beef was distributed to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan, making its way to various dining establishments and institutions. Packaged in sizes ranging from 12 to 40 pounds, the recalled products’ details are available on the USDA website.

Though no illnesses have been confirmed, the recall arose from routine testing that revealed E. coli in samples. To safeguard health, consumers should promptly dispose of any recalled beef found in their possession.

E. coli contamination can lead to severe health issues, including dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Seeking immediate medical attention is crucial if you suspect E. coli poisoning.

Stay informed about the recall and possible affected products by visiting the USDA website. Food safety remains paramount. Check your supplies, discard affected products, and stay vigilant against potential foodborne risks.
