MSU cultivates future leaders in agriculture

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University (MSU) has announced an exciting new partnership aimed at helping scientists translate their research into practical business solutions. This collaboration involves AgBioResearch, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Natural Science, and the Broad College of Business.

The goal is to connect researchers with the business sector, government, and other stakeholders to ensure their groundbreaking work has real-world impact.

Eric Hegg, dean of the College of Natural Science, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that while MSU scientists are conducting revolutionary research, many of them lack the business experience needed to bring their discoveries to the marketplace.

This partnership is designed to bridge that gap, allowing research to transform into actionable solutions that benefit businesses, government agencies, and agricultural organizations.

A key focus of this collaboration is preparing the next generation of business leaders in agriculture and natural resources. MSU will develop curriculum on supply chain resiliency for both undergraduate and graduate students, ensuring they are ready to tackle industry challenges.

The curriculum will be enhanced with external input to align closely with current industry demands.

In line with this new effort, Ian Olson has been appointed as executive in residence, supply chain resiliency. Olson will lead the development of innovative partnerships and help connect research results to business strategies.

His work will also involve creating new funding opportunities for research and guiding supply chain resilience initiatives.

Through this initiative, MSU aims to empower scientists to turn their research into business innovations, train future leaders, and meet the needs of industries across agriculture and natural resources.
