The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has announced the 2025 Horticulture Fund, providing a valuable grant opportunity for Michigan's nursery and ornamental horticulture industry.
With a maximum grant award of $20,000, the initiative aims to encourage innovation and support research within the sector. Interested applicants must submit their proposals by Friday, November 22, 2024.
This grant is open to faculty and staff members from Michigan universities and colleges, as well as teams of university/college investigators and private individuals. However, university or college personnel must serve as the Principal Investigator for each proposal.
Eligible projects must fall under one of the following three categories:
Applied Research – Projects focused on crop management systems that enhance profitability, while promoting environmental and social responsibility within the industry.
Basic Research – Research generating new knowledge that addresses current challenges and enables future advancements in horticultural techniques or processes.
Outreach/Training/Demonstration – Activities designed to assist Michigan’s nursery and ornamental horticultural businesses through education and training.
Proposals must be submitted via email to MDARD-NurseryCE@Michigan.gov by November 22, 2024. Detailed application guidelines and instructions are available online. The Horticulture Fund Advisory Committee, appointed by MDARD's Director, will review all submissions. Recipients of the grants will be announced in May 2025.
