Farmers and producers in Michigan now have the chance to attend the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market Expo (GLEXPO) through new scholarship opportunities.
The annual event, held each December in Grand Rapids, draws thousands of participants from across the region. This year, scholarships will cover registration and travel expenses for the event on December 9.
Known as a hub to “Connect, Innovate and Grow,” GLEXPO attracts over 4,500 participants and 400 leading agricultural companies. Attendees can join educational sessions on fruit, vegetable, and greenhouse production, as well as farm market operations.
The sessions focus on the latest innovations, management practices, and business growth strategies to help farmers enhance their productivity and efficiency.
Preference will be given to first-time attendees, encouraging new farmers to experience the benefits of the Expo. The scholarship program also welcomes assistance providers from community organizations that support farmers and local food systems.
The initiative is funded through a partnership between the Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems, Michigan State University Extension, and the Michigan Food and Farming System. These organizations aim to make agricultural learning and innovation more accessible to all producers.
Applicants must submit their forms by October 31, with notifications sent by November 5. Selected participants must confirm their acceptance and register by November 14. Attendance at specific sessions, including a USDA and MDARD-hosted opening session and a networking lunch, will be required.
A pre-conference virtual orientation will also be offered, along with a post-conference survey to gather participant feedback.
This opportunity provides farmers with valuable exposure to the latest agricultural practices and helps them build stronger networks within the industry.
