Sparta hosts McDonald's apple month event

Sparta hosts McDonald's apple month event

By Andi Anderson

To celebrate Michigan Apple Month and National Apple Month, McDonald’s of Michigan is hosting a special community event in Sparta, Michigan, a region known for its rich apple farming history.

On Friday, October 4, at 10:30 AM, national and state lawmakers, along with representatives from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) and the Michigan Apple Committee, will gather at Green Tree Orchards to honour the important partnership between McDonald’s and Michigan’s apple and farming communities.

This event will highlight the historical significance of apple farming in Sparta, its contributions to the region’s economy, and the long-standing relationship McDonald’s has with local apple farmers.

Michigan is the second-largest apple producer in the United States, with about 1.3 billion pounds of apples harvested annually from 850 family-run orchards across the state.

McDonald’s sources approximately 14 million pounds of Michigan apples each year for its menu items.

Prominent attendees will include U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten, State Sen. Rick Outman, State Rep. Bryan Posthumus, and other key figures from the agricultural and local farming sectors. The event underscores the collaboration between McDonald’s, local farmers, and the Michigan agricultural community.

The celebration will take place at Green Tree Orchards, located at 9557 Fruitridge Ave NW in Sparta, a fitting location to honour the impact of apple farming on the state’s agricultural landscape.

The gathering is a reminder of the crucial role local farmers play in providing fresh produce for the community and the broader market.

Through this event, McDonald’s aims to emphasize its commitment to supporting local farming operations, contributing to Michigan’s agricultural success, and maintaining strong ties with the state’s apple producers.
