Great news for Michigan's hardwood industry! Precision Hardwoods in Onaway has secured a $100,000 grant from the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). This grant will fuel a major expansion, allowing them to nearly 10-fold their production capacity, create 15 new jobs, and source even more sustainable lumber.
Precision Hardwoods has been a key player in the industry for over a decade, specializing in green industrial lumber and grade lumber. With the MDARD grant, they'll be able to acquire advanced machinery and invest in workforce development, boosting their output from 25,000 board feet per day to a whopping 220,000 board feet!
This expansion is not just good news for Precision Hardwoods, but for the entire community. The 15 new jobs will bring much-needed income to the Onaway area, while the increased demand for lumber will support sustainable forest management practices across Michigan.
"These funds invest in the future of not just Precision Hardwoods, but the future of the Onaway community," said MDARD Director Tim Boring. "This is a prime example of our commitment to supporting economic growth throughout the agricultural sector in Michigan."
Precision Hardwoods is also committed to sustainability, holding Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification. This means their lumber comes from responsibly managed forests, ensuring environmental and social benefits.
This is an exciting development for Michigan's hardwood industry, showcasing the power of collaboration between businesses and government agencies. With this grant, Precision Hardwoods is poised for significant growth, creating jobs, supporting local communities, and promoting sustainable forestry practices.
