The Michigan Wheat Committee recently welcomed three new appointments made by Governor Whitmer, including Berrien County Farm Bureau member Carl Wagner and Huron County Farm Bureau member Jeff Krohn. These individuals will serve a term until May 2026 and join the committee in their efforts to promote and support the production and consumption of wheat in the state.
Carl Wagner, a farmer from Niles, represents District 2 growers and brings his expertise in wheat farming to the committee. Wagner, who works at C3 seeds, manages 125 acres of land, with a significant portion dedicated to wheat cultivation. With a Bachelor of Science degree in crop and soil agronomic sciences from MSU, Wagner is also actively involved as the young farmer chair for the county Farm Bureau.
Jeff Krohn, hailing from Owendale, serves as a representative for District 7 growers. Operating on a much larger scale, Krohn manages 2,000 acres of land, including 600 acres dedicated to wheat production. His commitment to sustainable farming practices was recognized in 2019 when he received the State of Michigan Conservation Impact Award from the Nature Conservancy.
Joining them is Dwight Bartle from Brown City, appointed to represent District 5 growers. Bartle is an experienced farmer, overseeing over 300 acres of wheat. While he previously engaged in dairy farming, Bartle has shifted his focus to row crops in recent years.
Together, these appointed members will contribute their knowledge and insights to the Michigan Wheat Promotion Committee. This committee plays a vital role in supporting agricultural research, development of wheat products, and promoting the growth of the wheat industry in the state.
