Carson to Guide Rural Health Housing and Nutrition Policy

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced the appointment of Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., as the new National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing at USDA. The position will allow Carson to contribute directly to shaping rural health, housing, and nutrition policies.

Carson will serve as the Department’s chief advisor on these issues, working with President Trump and Secretary Rollins to advance the Make America Healthy Again initiative. He will also help implement rural health investment measures outlined in the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Highlighting Carson’s qualifications, Secretary Rollins noted his leadership as former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and his medical expertise in addressing chronic disease and healthcare challenges. She added that his insights would be key to ensuring safe housing and better nutrition programs for rural families.

“Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish,” said Dr. Ben Carson. “I am honored to work with Secretary Rollins on these important initiatives to help fulfill President Trump’s vision for a healthier, stronger America.”

Carson brings decades of experience in medicine and public service. He became the youngest division director in Johns Hopkins’ history when he led pediatric neurosurgery, and he is widely recognized for pioneering surgeries that gained international attention. His honors include the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Through this appointment, USDA aims to provide stronger support for nutrition, health services, and housing—ensuring that rural America continues to prosper in the years ahead.
