Michigan farmers and agricultural professionals now have the chance to expand their leadership skills through the 2026 MI Ag CORE Leadership Program. Registration is open, with applications due by November 1, 2025. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by December 1.
The program, starting in January 2026, runs throughout the year and is designed to develop skills in Communication, Organization, Relationships, and Engagement (CORE).
It includes seven sessions in total, with four in-person gatherings and three virtual meetings. This hybrid format helps participants manage busy farm schedules while still engaging in valuable professional development.
According to Ben Steyer, CEO of the Michigan Soybean Committee, the program is designed with the realities of farming life in mind. “By releasing our full schedule now, participants can plan out their calendar to attend all sessions,” he said.
MI Ag CORE was created by the Michigan Potato Industry Commission, the Michigan Wheat Program, and the Michigan Soybean Committee. These organizations recognized the need for a well-rounded leadership program to support growers and professionals moving into management or expanding their leadership responsibilities.
Kelly Turner, executive director of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission, explained that the program brings together essential skills that would have benefited many leaders earlier in their careers.
The sessions cover a wide range of topics, beginning with a two-part DISC talent and skills assessment, and continuing with training in communication, governance, and human resources. The series concludes in November 2026 with final in-person presentations.
Industry sponsorships keep tuition affordable. Sponsors include TriEst Ag Group, Walther Farms, Greenstone FCS, Midwest Water Stewards, Morgan Composting, and Star of the West Milling. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available at miagcore.com.
Supported by grower-funded commodity groups, MI Ag CORE represents a strong investment in the future of Michigan agriculture by equipping participants with knowledge, resources, and confidence to lead in their communities and careers.
