Fifth MI Ag Ideas to Grow with Virtual Conference

By Andi Anderson

The 2025 MI Ag Ideas to Grow With virtual conference, hosted by Michigan State University Extension, will take place from February 24 through March 7, 2025.

Now in its fifth year, the conference is a valuable opportunity for farmers, landowners, and anyone interested in food and agriculture to explore diverse topics through 40 free educational sessions.

This online event caters to participants from the Great Lakes region and beyond, offering sessions on various themes, including animal agriculture, beginning farming, field crop production, food preservation, irrigation, solar farming, and vegetables.

Attendees can choose sessions tailored to their interests, from learning about soil management to exploring solar grazing techniques.

“Michigan has a diverse agricultural industry, and this conference provides something for everyone,” said Charles Gould, Michigan State University Extension educator. “It is perfect for new farmers and seasoned professionals alike.”

Key session topics include:

  • Animal Agriculture: Beekeeping, livestock production, and farmers markets.
  • Beginning Farming: EQIP funding, business loans, and climate change.
  • Field Crops: No-till farming and precision conservation.
  • Food Preservation: Canning, selling honey, and dehydrating produce.
  • Solar Farming: Grazing cattle and growing vegetables on solar projects.

Thanks to Michigan State University Extension’s support, the conference is free, but registration is required to access the Zoom links. Participants can attend multiple sessions and switch tracks to meet their specific needs. Restricted use pesticide and certified crop adviser credits will also be offered for several sessions.
