Great Lakes Bee Company (GLBC) is inviting the public to celebrate the grand opening of its new storefront in Fremont, Michigan, on Tuesday, September 24, at 12 p.m. The event marks Honey Harvest Month and the 50th anniversary of Hasselman’s Honey.
Visitors can enjoy a ribbon-cutting ceremony, store tours, and shopping at the new location at 5973 S. Warner Ave. in the Old Rink Plaza.
Backyard beekeeping has been growing in popularity, and GLBC has been at the forefront of promoting its benefits to Michigan’s agriculture and economy.
Each spring, bees from GLBC return to Fremont after pollinating almond crops in California and rebuilding hives in Georgia. These bees forage on local flowers, creating 150,000 pounds of Hasselman’s Honey each year.
“Larry Hasselman’s passion for beekeeping started it all in 1974,” said GLBC owner Genji Leclair. “Since founding Great Lakes Bee Company in 2016, I’ve aimed to preserve Larry’s legacy while producing the best honey for our customers.”
Beyond honey production, GLBC bees also play a vital role in pollinating various crops, including almonds, cherries, and apples. Leclair emphasizes the importance of bees in agriculture, contributing to a third of the world’s food production and supporting biodiversity.
GLBC not only produces Hasselman’s Honey but also supplies bees, beekeeping equipment, and products made from their beeswax, such as candles.
The grand opening will include a special resolution presented by Fremont Mayor James Rynberg, recognizing GLBC’s contributions to the local economy.
“September is National Honey Harvest Month, and we’re thrilled to welcome everyone to our new store,” said Leclair. “We hope to educate the public about the vital role of bees and share our honey products.”
Join GLBC on September 24 to explore the world of beekeeping, shop for honey products, and celebrate a significant milestone for Hasselman’s Honey and the Fremont community.
