Michigan Farm Bureau Charts a Course for 2024 with Updated Policy Book

Michigan Farm Bureau Charts a Course for 2024 with Updated Policy Book

By Andi Anderson

Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) proudly announces the release of its 2024 policy book, a comprehensive document shaped by the input of more than 400 county delegates during the organization's 104th annual meeting. This extensive policy book reflects the collective wisdom of MFB members, addressing critical issues in agriculture and rural communities.

The policy book, the result of a year's worth of collaborative efforts, underwent updates, additions, amendments, and deletions based on a thorough review of 680 policy recommendations. These recommendations were submitted by 64 county Farm Bureaus, 12 advisory committees, and two topic-based task forces, indicating a significant increase from the previous year's submissions.

Covering 104 state-level policies, the book delves into issues crucial to the food and agriculture industry, as well as Michigan's rural communities. Topics span farm and conservation programs, commodities, natural resources, the environment, transportation regulations, labor laws, education, energy, and more.

Emily Reinart, MFB’s grassroots policy outreach specialist, expressed the invigorating nature of seeing members engage with the new policy book. It stands as both the culmination of a year's worth of grassroots policy work and the commencement of efforts to advance Farm Bureau's legislative and regulatory agenda.

The policy book serves as a valuable resource for members, aiding them in collaborating with peers, elected officials, and state agency leaders. It equips members to actively participate in the development, deliberation, and implementation of proposals impacting their farms.

Reinart encourages members to get involved in their county Farm Bureau’s public policy committee, emphasizing the importance of engaging with elected officials at local and state levels. The policy book, accessible through keyword search and filter options, or downloadable as a printer-friendly PDF, provides a user-friendly interface for members.

Printed copies of the policy book will be distributed at state and local Farm Bureau events starting in early February, facilitating broader access for members and stakeholders.
