Michigan Farm Bureau has named Katie Courtade of Mecosta-Osceola Career Center (MOCC) as its 2025 Educator of the Year.
Courtade leads the AgriScience and Natural Resources program, providing students from five area schools with hands-on training in agribusiness, animal science, food processing, and environmental sciences.
Her leadership has transformed the program, establishing a 75x80-foot barn, a greenhouse, and a 10-acre apple orchard, which she and her students are revitalizing to serve as both an educational resource and a source of fresh fruit for the community.
Courtade has also reestablished an FFA chapter at MOCC, offering students leadership opportunities and agricultural skill development.
She has built strong partnerships with key organizations, including the Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State University Extension, and local Farm Bureaus, ensuring students gain valuable industry connections.
“Katie’s passion, dedication, and innovation in agricultural education exemplify the spirit of this award,” said MFB’s P&E Specialist Katie Cooper.
As part of the recognition, Courtade will receive a grant to attend the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference and a $500 classroom grant from the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, sponsored by AgroLiquid.
The Educator of the Year award celebrates teachers who integrate agriculture into their curriculum and inspire students through critical thinking and practical learning. Sponsored by the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, the award supports leadership and educational programming that strengthens the future of Michigan agriculture.
